Procedure

  1. 1

Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes to discharge any residual current in the system.

Warning: Failure to disconnect can short the new alternator on install.

  2. 2

Remove the engine undertray (4× 10mm bolts) to access the alternator from below.

  3. 3

Release the auxiliary belt tensioner with the serpentine belt tool and slip the belt off the alternator pulley.

  4. 4

Unplug the alternator's wiring connector and unscrew the B+ output nut on the back of the unit.

  5. 5

Unbolt the two alternator mounting bolts and lower the old unit out through the bottom of the engine bay.

  6. 6

Install the new alternator in reverse order. Torque both mounting bolts to spec before refitting the belt.

    Torque: 48 Nm
  7. 7

Refit the belt, reconnect wiring, refit the undertray, and reconnect the battery. Start the engine and confirm the battery light is off and charging voltage is 13.8-14.6V at idle.
