Alloy-wheel fitment: PCD, offset and other checks

PCD, width and offset are important wheel measurements, but they are not a complete fitment decision. Diameter, centre bore, fastener type and seat, load rating, brake clearance, tyre suitability and the vehicle manufacturer's permitted combinations may also matter.

Use vehicle-specific data. Compare the proposed wheel with the manufacturer's specification for the exact model, axle and equipment. A matching bolt pattern alone does not establish that the wheel will clear brakes or suspension, sit correctly in the arch, carry the required load or accept the right fasteners.

Read every marking carefully. Cast or stamped markings on an existing wheel may identify dimensions and approvals, but location and completeness vary. Photograph the complete markings and part number. Do not assume a visually similar wheel, a shared platform or a nearby offset is approved for the vehicle.

Inspect a used wheel as an individual item. Ask for current photographs of the inner and outer faces, mounting surface, bolt holes and rim edges, plus any repair or refinishing history the seller knows. Photographs cannot rule out cracks, distortion or previous damage, so use a competent wheel specialist where condition is uncertain.

Confirm before fitting. Ask the seller to state the exact wheel identity, included centre caps or sensors, condition and return terms in writing. Have tyre size, fastener torque and clearance checked against current manufacturer information.
